First ever blog!
I'm a 41-year-old mum with a 20-year-old son, 13-year-old daughter and a 5-year-old boy.
I wanted to start talking to other people that like me have been through crazy teenage wars and are constantly battling with bringing up children in today's stressful society.
I would love to share my experiences and gather information and ideas from other people that can help me feel less crazy!
My children are my life and like most people I adore them and want to be the best parent ever. Of course, I am not perfect and often feel like a kid myself, always doubting my actions and worrying if I have been too harsh or I have got it right.
On the positive side, my older son is now hopefully through the teenage storm and is doing really well and is fun to live with most of the time. And believe me when I say that I never thought it possible because from the age of 12 to 18 it was one of the worst times of my life and I imagined he would either be dead by now of a drugs overdose or in prison. Now he has a good job and is more reliable and responsible.
I'm sure there are plenty of parents out there that are going through hell with their kids right now, wondering if they will ever see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Here are some ideas to help you through the tough times!
1. Go for a walk, jog or run in the fresh air, (this will help clear your head).
2. Talk to other people about it.
3. Take up Yoga, (it has so many benefits and can help you relax).
4. Join an exercise group, something you enjoy that is fun and will take your mind off things. I do Zumba which is fun especially when we do the punching actions in our dance it gets out some anger.
5. Try to sit in the sun for 15 minutes a day or during the winter take a vitamin D supplement to help keep you happy, (lack of vitamin D makes depression worse).
6. Parent line in England was very helpful and gave me some professional advice when I needed it).
7. Do some cooking with your kids, it doesn't have to be hard something simple is fine. Try to let them pick something they would like and get them involved as much as possible. This will help you spend some time together without thinking of anything else. Then try and sit down and eat it together.
8. Try to spend some time each week just for them, most brothers and sisters are constantly having to share parents and often need a little bit of time just spent on them. You don't have to spend money on them just some quality time. My 5-year-old loves a story every night it's our time and we visit the library every week so it doesn't cost anything.
9. Treat yourself every now and then, maybe a massage, a new outfit or a night out without feeling guilty, parents work is hard you deserve it!
10. Listen to relaxing music, take a bath with some lavender essential oils, light a candle have a glass of wine or a milky drink before going to bed it will help you relax.
