8 Steps To A Clean Mind!
Well, I don't know about you but the last couple of weeks with all the madness and tragedy in our world I have been feeling very sad and exhausted with stress and worry. I worry too much anyway about what might happen and the recent events have left me feeling even more anxious than I usually am. I feel like I want to keep all my friends and family close and hide them all away from the madness. I need to clean my mind from the negative thoughts and give my health a boost. I have been neglecting myself lately and need to follow the below methods that have been helping me over the years. Join me and help yourself feel better too. Negative thoughts, unhealthy mental habits, blocked emotions are all toxins that pollute your mind.
Here are some ways you can help clean your mind from toxins;
Help your gut by replenishing the bugs that aid digestion with a daily probiotic supplement containing both Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium bacteria strains. Eat more prebiotic foods and help the bugs in your gut to flourish, onions, garlic, leeks and bananas help, if your digestive system is working you will feel less sluggish and more energised. Sugar may be good for a short rush of energy, but if you want to beat fatigue, you should cut back and swap sugar for more protein. Lean meat, fish, nuts and dairy are a great form of protein, and filling up on the fibre found in fruit, veg and wholegrain carbs will boost your energy levels. Cutting back on sugar will help balance out your blood sugar levels, if your levels are balanced you won't feel the urge to snack or binge. The vitamins and minerals in these foods will top up your iron, magnesium and vitamin B levels and stop you feeling so tired and flat. 2. The Power of a Shower
Allow your mind to be washed, close your eyes in the shower and feel the warm water massaging your brain. By closing your eyes you force your mind to tune in with your senses, feel the water running down your body, listen to the different sound the water creates when it runs over your ears, let your mind relax to the sound this will increase your mindfulness. One of the keys to a healthy mind is being mindful of our environment. Every day take some time to meditate your 5 senses and let the fresh air into your mind. Smell something, focus your mind on the smell, your are opening up your senses and allowing your mind to relax. Taste or feel something different, listen to a new track, all of these things will open up your mind and increase your mindfulness.
Practice Yoga, join a group and get yourself out of the house. If you have never done Yoga before make sure to find a beginners group, to begin with. I have been lazy lately and have not been practicing enough. Yoga involves concentration on your breath and body, this helps to soothe your mind and relieve worries. Meditate with mindful breathing, this will help bring your body and mind back to the present moment. Focus on your breath as it moves through your body, this will help you clear your mind, develop focus and boost your mood.
5. Go for a walk.
Take a good mindful walk, out in the fresh air, get your body moving and your mind will move too. When you walk be aware of your surroundings, take in the trees, the blue sky and the sound of the wind. All the senses in your body will be working and all this fresh information will invigorate your mind. When you walk also concentrate on the movement in your legs, arms, the way you open out your shoulders, your style of walking and the way you hold your posture can determine a mental wellbeing. If it is sunny sit in the sun for at least 15 minutes a day, this will help boost your vitamin D levels. While sun exposure is your best source for vitamin D, it's important to understand that not all sun exposure will allow for vitamin D production. Sunlight is composed of about 1500 wavelengths, but the only wavelength that makes your body produce vitamin D are UVB-rays when they hit exposed skin
6. Declutter your mind.
Declutter your home, this helps to declutter your mind. I am very strange and find decluttering very therapeutic, even small things like streamlining your email, deleting old messages or photos can make your life feel a lot easier. I also like to keep a calendar of reminders and have recently been making a to-do list that helps me get through my workload without feeling overwhelmed.
Watch something that will make you laugh or spend time with somebody that is a bit of a joker. Laughter helps decrease stress by reducing the levels of stress hormones such as cortisol, epinephrine (adrenaline) and dopamine, and increases the production of serotonin and endorphins which reduce effects of stress. Laughter boosts the production of serotonin, a natural anti-depressant and will also help boost your immune system. I have been neglecting my friends lately and have been staying in and watching too much TV. Being in a sociable environment and mixing with others is a good way to stimulate the brain, keeping it agile, active and young. My 14-year-old daughter babysat for the first time last weekend, just for a few hours. My husband and I went out for a meal with our friends. I thoroughly enjoyed this and I felt so much better after. Our brain needs exercise and challenges to keep it fit just like any other part of our body, research shows that fostering good friendships helps reduce anxiety and depression.
Above all else, the secret of being happy is accepting where you are in life and making the most out of every day!
