Why we are thinking of moving to Colorado USA.

One of the reasons why we have decided that we would love to move to Colorado is because our daughter suffers from very severe Crohn's Disease. The dull depressing cold British weather doesn't help her condition and cannabis oil is easily assessable and legal in this state. Cannabis oil has helped so many Crohn's sufferers live a normal healthy life without the awful drugs that seem to be making her condition worse.

My 14-year-old daughter has had a very tough couple of years coming to terms with her illness and managing it at such a young age. Over the last 4 years, she has suffered from her illness and her symptoms have got so bad that most days she can hardly move, walk or eat. She now spends most of her time in the house or on visits to the hospital. The side effects of her medication are affecting her mentally and she is locking herself away from the world and I can see that her dreams and hopes are sinking.

We cannot bear to see her so sad and in so much pain, we have been trying so hard to have faith in the UK for helping and have been encouraging her to keep fighting and telling her that she will get better. Unfortunately, though we haven't had much success and her condition is only getting worse. She feels very angry and let down with the world and she has become extremely depressed.

My daughter's recent consultation with her professor was very negative, even though she has been taking all the medication as directed and trying very hard to look after herself, things have not improved. Her latest MRI results were not good and we are left with two options, 1.these awful drugs that will need to be injected into her veins and are very painful with awful side effects. 2. an operation to remove the inflamed area. The operation doesn't get rid of her Crohn's it only keeps it away for an unknown time, 6 months, 1 year or maybe more if she's lucky. With very little positive options available we have been researching other ways to help her be able to get a better quality of life.

And that's how we found out about Colorado.........

Colorado isn’t all snow-covered mountain peaks, scenic alpine roads and dry desert cliffs. This beautiful state offers a diverse playground made up of flourishing urban areas, quaint rural towns and uninterrupted open spaces.

How lovely it would be to enjoy the 300 days a year of sunshine after living in rainy England. To be able to get outside daily would help us all feel more energised whilst keeping us fit with long scenic bike rides and so much more choice for family outdoor adventures. Getting away from our gadgets and devices that we spend far too much time on. With dark and cold winters and not much to do that doesn't cost so the earth, it would be a much heathier lifestyle. How nice it would be to be able to spend more time outdoors in the fresh air spending quality family time relaxing in the afternoons having BBQs.

Colorado has an average altitude of 6,800 feet above sea level, the highest for any state in the nation. The mild winters would make seasonal effectiveness disorder a little easier to manage, and the low-humidity summers would keep us from being slaves to central air conditioning.

My daughter loves art and Colorado is the national leader for arts funding, supported by both the private and non-profit sectors, with world-class institutions for the visual arts, performing arts, music and heritage. Colorado’s music, dance, theatre and visual arts organisations are known for presenting popular masterpieces and innovative new works year-round.

After reading how hard it is to be able to obtain a green card and live out this lifestyle, it seems pretty impossible, but we are still going to try our hardest. For once in my life, I am going to try to stop worrying about facing the disappointment of it not working and at least try. I do love my friends and family and would miss them terribly, but when you are forced with certain situations in your life you have to hold on to hope to keep you strong.

I don't want to rush this decision and we will go and test out the oil first to make sure it works.

We are making plans to have a holiday in Colorado and have already made friends with two families living in Colorado. One of the families has been using the oil for over 3 years on their son who had become so seriously ill with his Crohns disease. The injections he was taking (the ones that my daughter has been offered) put him in a wheelchair and his condition got worse.

We are meeting with another consultant in the UK in a few weeks and hope that we may be able to get medical permission to bring it back with us. If this oil helps our daughter it might just prove to the UK that this oil will work and that it will then be legalised to help other sufferers.

UK citizens can visit the USA for up to 90 days as a tourist providing you have a visa and proof of enough money to take care of yourself for the duration. If we finally want to move to Colorado it will not be easy. You may be able to move to the USA if YOU!

  • Marry a US citizen.

  • Have skills that are in short supply in the US. A degree is normally a must. Or you have a superior specialist skill with at least 12 years experience. Have an employer who has a good reason and is willing to transfer you. You may get a Green card in the diversity lottery (UK citizens, except N.Ireland, are not generally eligible unless you, your spouse or parents were born abroad or held a different citizenship.

  • Own or buy a business (this does not get you permanent resident status or green card) You must be a national of a qualifying Treaty countries. The business must have a minimum value of around $150k (more the better) bearing in mind you will need somewhere to live and with any startup business, you will need at least 2 years living money as back up. So a figure of $350k would be a nearer minimum.

  • Invest at least $1m in assets into the US,(half of that in a few areas) Your background will be thoroughly investigated!

  • A close relative (mother, father, brother, sister and no further) who is a US citizen that would sponsor you, this can take up to 12 years.

Recruitment agencies will only take you seriously if you are already in the US. US employers have no idea what foreign qualification are or mean (except Degrees) it may pay you to get your qualification translated into a US equivalent, there are Companies that do this. You will need a job offer before you can get your visa. Your Employer will be your sponsor and this can cost them upward of $5k, therefore you will have to be able to offer something really special to get considered They may also have to prove to the Dept of labour that there is no American who can do the job if the position is to be permanent. So there is hope of a better life for my daughter and that is what we are holding onto right now!

If anyone reading this has any experiences living in Colorado or have tested the oil we would love for you to share some tips and advice with us.
