How To Achieve Healthy Looking Skin!

Healthy looking skin is not just about how and what you put on your skin, it is also about what you eat, good sleep, managing stress and how active you are. The secret, I’ve discovered, from years of trialling different beauty products that often make my skin worse is learning to understand your skin. Most commercial cosmetics are full of nasty toxins that your body doesn’t want, right? 

To me, the idea of beauty is not about masking the real person and covering it up. Don't get me wrong I love to wear makeup and change my everyday look, but the feeling of face freedom, free from products is like wearing your comfortable pyjamas at the end of a busy day. There are lots of simple ways to thank your body and feel more beautiful.


Your skin is the largest organ of your body and is one of the most important organs for detoxification. Your skin is responsible for eliminating one-quarter of your bodies waste (over a pound of waste products each day for the average adult). Your skin also receives one-third of your body’s circulating blood, too. Your skin is the last organ to receive nutrients from your body, but it is the first to show signs of imbalances. Imbalances can cause acne and skin conditions.

If you’re a busy mum or dad you likely have very little time to yourself in the morning as you are probably getting everyone else clean, dressed and out the door. Slapping on a face cream as you rush out the door will hydrate the surface of your skin, but if you want to de-puff, boost circulation and calm your mind you need to put a teeny bit of effort in. 


My daily routine is very easy to manage and doesn't slow down my busy lifestyle. I have shared my routine and If you follow my daily plan I'm sure you too will be able to enjoy healthier looking skin. 

Morning

Set your alarm 15 minutes earlier than usual and drink a whole pint of spring water before your normal cup of coffee or tea. 

Wake up your facial muscles by dry brushing, it is a simple detoxification process for your body. Stimulate organs by gently massaging your skin to help your lymphatic system. If you help your lymphatic system you will eliminate dead skin coatings, strengthen your immune system, eliminate cellulite, stimulate your hormones, and help to tighten your skin through better circulation. Increased blood flow improves circulation firming your skin improving the appearance of cellulite and encourages your body to discharge metabolic waste.

Dry brushing can also improve muscle tone, help distribute fat deposits more evenly, help with pregnancy swelling, help prevent varicose veins and stimulate the hormone and oil gland. This alone is worth the few minutes it takes. I notice immediately that my skin feels smoother and brighter.

How to dry brush!
  • Get a good facial brush that has all natural bristles and a good handle that won’t easily fall off. 
  • Don’t brush on wet skin or with a wet brush as it can be too abrasive and your pores are more open (meaning you could clog your pores with all that stuff you’re trying to brush off). 
  • Dry brush before you shower.
  • Daily is recommended.
  • Brush from the bottom up to support the pathway of your lymph.
  • Do not stroke away from your heart as this can put extra pressure on the valves.
  • Brush from your chin to your hairline on one side of the face, and then move to the other side.
  • Light, gentle strokes will do the trick. This should not hurt!

Brush Care!
  • Shake or tap your brush into a waste area to get rid of any dead skin.
  • Don’t share your brush with other people. 
  • Store your brush in a dry place, away from moisture.
  • Wash your brush once a week with a mild soap and water.
  • Let it dry in a sunny area.

My Verdict

This product is small and compact, robust, easy to use, and comes with clear instructions. When I used the product I expected it to be warm but I couldn't feel any heat when I held it near my skin. The light is bright and although goggles are supplied to protect your eyes I felt more comfortable with mine closed. The recommended treatment time is 15 minutes each day. The area of skin I targeted for trial was on my chin as it is the area on my face where I get most of my spots. Lumie Clear needs to be plugged in but comes with a relatively long wire that could reach the plug by my bed and I like to close my eyes when using, bedtime was the perfect time to use this clever device.  

I think it is a wonderful product and is well worth purchasing if you have acne. I haven't got acne but it has cleared the red marks I have on my chin from picking spots over the years and my skin already looks healthier. I hate using products on my skin so this product is perfect for me.

Twice a week

A great way to clear up blackheads for your skin is to place 4 or 5 drops of raw honey on an open lemon wedge and rub the lemon on the targeted area for a minute. Leave the mixture on for 5 minutes and rinse with cold water. Citrus can make your skin photosensitive so make sure you don't go outside for a few hours after use, bedtime is a good time to apply. If you are using Lumie Clear make sure to leave at least couple of hours in between due to skin photosensitivity from the citrus.

Once A Week

Raw Honey can be used to make a weekly face mask as it has natural anti-bacterial and moisturising qualities. Once a week use a tablespoon or so of raw honey (not the processed stuff parading as honey) and gently warm it by rubbing your fingertips together. Spread on your face. Leave on for 5 – 10 minutes and then use warm water to gently rinse it off and pat dry. 

Other Important Things To Remember for Healthy Skin

Drink plenty of water.
Eat foods with antioxidants like blueberries, pomegranates, acai berries, goji berries, spinach, raspberries, nuts, seeds, purple grapes, dark chocolate (70% or higher of cocoa content) and drink green tea.
Neutralise free radicals from your body by eating different nutrient-rich foods.Think about what colours you've missed throughout the day, and try to incorporate them into your next meal.
Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when the sun's rays are strongest.
Wear a sunhat.
Use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15.
Seek shade.
